Overview
Popular Canadian shoe retailer Little Burgundy’s trendy footwear and accessories make it a go-to destination for many young, fashion-forward consumers. This demographic is value conscious and prioritizes payment flexibility and affordability.
The retailer wanted to add additional payment options to their eCommerce site to increase flexibility and accessibility for customers.
The Problem:
Although Little Burgundy had an existing Klarna integration, the retailer wanted to expand its offerings to fit a wider range of customer preferences. With 40% of Gen Z using BNPL weekly or more frequently and 28% of Millennials doing the same, adding Afterpay on the site would provide Little Burgundy another way to reach its core audience.
Gen Z is also more cautious and intentional with their spending, compared to older generations. By splitting purchases into four equal payments made every two weeks, with no interest if paid on time, Afterpay makes higher-priced items more accessible. 63% of Gen Z consumers have also moved away from credit cards. Because Afterpay allows customers to spread payments across an extended timeline without a credit card or a hard credit check, young consumers without established credit histories can still manage larger purchases.
The Solution:
Virid worked with Afterpay to set up a roadmap for the project and coordinated with the vendor to organize the resources needed for a seamless integration. Virid successfully implemented Afterpay on time, enabling sustained revenue growth on the Little Burgundy site as a result of increased payment flexibility for customers.
The Impact:
Virid’s Afterpay integration for Little Burgundy helped the retailer better reach its younger, value conscious consumers. Since the launch, Little Burgundy has seen solid engagement across both the Afterpay and Klarna platforms. BNPL installment payments boost overall spending, and offering both options has actually increased overall BNPL usage for Little Burgundy, enabling revenue growth through greater customer flexibility.
