Journeys, a well-established US-based footwear retailer with a strong national following, has been in business for over 36 years. Known for its trendy and high-quality products, Journeys caters to a diverse range of customer needs and preferences.

The PROBLEM

Journeys faced challenges with its younger demographic, who were wary of using credit cards for purchases. The retailer's higher-ticket offerings often exceeded the discretionary budgets of this demographic, leading to hesitancy in completing purchases.

To maintain its competitive edge, Journeys needed a solution to allow customers to defer payments over time and to launch this solution quickly to maximize market impact.

The Solution

In response to these challenges, Journeys partnered with Virid to integrate Klarna’s Pay in 4 services, which allows customers to spread their payments over time.

Virid implemented messaging throughout the site to promote this new payment option, including dynamic presentation adjustments based on order size and destination.

This ensured that the Pay in 4 option was only shown to customers whose order totals were appropriate for such a model and limited to domestic shipping addresses, excluding APO/FPO locations.

The Impact

The Pay in 4 service was launched in the summer of 2020 and received an enthusiastic reception from customers. This new payment option led to a significant increase in order volume, and today, it represents 18% of all orders. This integration not only provided a flexible payment solution to meet customer needs but also significantly boosted Journeys’ sales and customer satisfaction.
